Timber Framework, Levelling And Flooring!

This week at JB Carpentry Plus LTD began with the replacement of vinyl flooring that was removed to dig the trenches for the main structural steel frame on the ground floor. The steel frame was set in concrete, floor joists were replaced with a layer of plywood on top, and screed was used to replace that which we had removed previously. Unfortunately the floor between the 2 sides of the steel frame were not level before our work began and we were asked to level it as best as possible. We used a self-levelling compound to achieve this. This compound comes in a dust form similar to concrete, it is then mixed with water and spread across the floor. Gravity then allows the mixture to level itself as it dries. Once the compound was dry, the floor was cleaned thoroughly to remove and dirt and dust, and an adhesive was used to stick each vinyl flooring piece back down.

Work has also been progressing steadily on the roof of the property, the steels were fitted last week and the timber framework began. This week has seen the exterior framework completed along with joist hangers and lots of screws, nails, nuts and bolts! Felt and baton was installed on the descending cut roof and the flat roof has been boarded. We have measured and left space for the Velux windows to be installed when they arrive and soffits and facias have also been fitted. Towards the end of the week, we measured up for the staircase and started on the stud walls that will surround the bathroom and the staircase. So far everything has gone exceedingly well and our customers are very excited to see the next stages of their project as it comes together!
